ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The young but vivacious Department of Sociology started its journey in 2003&ndash;offering both Program and Honours courses in Sociology. The faculty members of the Department use technologically driven teaching tools, smart classrooms and innovative teaching and learning strategies to teach the prescribed syllabus of West Bengal State University. Being a close-knit Department, the faculty members are constantly mentoring the students and encouraging them to acquire critical understanding, theoretical insight and research skills through rigorous training. The Department regularly organizes special lectures (by eminent academicians and industry experts); national/international seminars and webinars; workshops; field visits and career counseling and equips the students for a variety of careers including but not limited to academics, civil services, activism, advocacy, corporate social responsibility. The Department provides a holistic understanding of society, community and culture and aims to make the students conscious and socially responsible human beings through an interactive classroom experience, allowing them the freedom of expression. The Department boasts of its own library with a great collection of books and the Department is preparing a rich repository of e-content, e-resources and e-lectures, that would enable students access course materials with a click of a button.
